What is Osteopathic Manual Therapy?

Osteopathic manual therapy, often simply called osteopathy, is a gentle, hands-on approach to supporting the body’s natural ability to move, adapt, and heal. At Osteo Difference in Milton, care is guided by a deep understanding of anatomy, physiology, and the interconnectedness of all body systems.

By utilizing a comprehensive assessment and skilled palpation, osteopathic manual practitioners look for areas of restriction or imbalance that may affect the body’s overall function and comfort. Once identified, these restrictions are addressed using a range of gentle body manipulations to restore proper body function.

Each osteopathic treatment is individualized, comprehensive, and non-invasive. The aim is not to treat a single symptom, but to support the body as a whole — restoring balance, improving circulation and mobility, and helping you feel and function at your best.

About Me

Kostyantyn "Kostya" Strilets B.Sc, MOMSC

After a fulfilling 25-year career in engineering, focusing on designing and troubleshooting energy systems, I decided to pursue a lifelong passion for health and hands-on care. Manual therapy—particularly osteopathy—has always been close to my heart, and that passion ultimately led me to the Canadian Academy of Osteopathy (CAO).

At CAO, I completed a demanding four-year, 4,200-hour program to earn my Master in Practice of Osteopathic Manipulative Sciences (MOMSC). This included over 1,000 hours of hands-on clinical training, where I gained a deep appreciation for osteopathy’s principles and its view of the body as a beautifully connected whole. I am a professional member of the Ontario Osteopathic Association (OOA).

My engineering background continues to influence my practice today. The same analytical skills I once used to solve complex technical problems now help me assess and understand the human body with accuracy. By combining this problem-solving approach with osteopathic principles, I can offer thoughtful, personalized care that supports each person’s unique journey to health. Having been part of the Milton (Halton) community since 2008, I am proud to bring this experience home and share it through Osteo Difference—helping people restore balance, mobility, and resilience in their daily lives.

Frequently Asked Questions

What to Wear to Your Osteopathy Appointment

For your appointment, we recommend wearing loose-fitting, comfortable clothing that allows for easy movement. This helps us assess your body and perform hands-on treatment effectively.
– Choose stretchable fabrics like cotton or spandex.
– Wearing layers is a great idea, so you can adjust your comfort level.
– Please keep jewelry to a minimum to avoid interference.
It’s best to avoid tight clothing, complicated outfits, and heavy makeup, as these can make the treatment more difficult.
Also, please be mindful of others in the clinic and avoid using strong perfumes, colognes, or scented lotions due to possible allergies of the following patients

Duration of the treatment

Osteopathic treatment is not strictly time-based. Each session is guided by ongoing assessment—your practitioner continuously evaluates how your body is responding and determines how much treatment is appropriate in that moment.

While appointments are scheduled in 30-minute time slots to allow for flow in the clinic, the actual hands-on portion may vary. Some sessions may be shorter if your body has reached its capacity for change; others may use more of the available time.

The focus is always on delivering the right amount of treatment for your condition, rather than simply filling a time block. This ensures that every visit is safe, individualized, and tailored to support your body’s natural healing process.

What can I expect during my first visit?

Your first appointment at Osteo Difference is designed to be thorough and safe. We begin with a detailed health history review to understand your background and identify any possible contraindications for treatment—for example, situations such as the first trimester of pregnancy, a recent fracture that has not yet healed, or other health concerns that may require caution.

Once your practitioner confirms it is safe to proceed, a careful assessment is performed. This includes a variety of motion tests and gentle palpation to evaluate how different areas of your body move and interact.

After this assessment, you will receive a gentle, whole-body treatment tailored to your condition and unique needs. The goal of this first session is not only to begin restoring balance and function, but also to help you feel comfortable, informed, and confident about your care.
